History and Background

For more than 16 years, IM=X® Pilates has been an innovator in the pilates, fitness, yoga, cycling, ballet bar and back care industries. IM=X (Integrated Movement Xercize) is a new generation of pilates reformer and cardio inspired workouts enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of exercise enthusiasts who proclaim its “immediate results”! Founder, Elyse McNergney, created IM=X to offer a total fitness approach - one that integrates pilates exercises with strength and cardiovascular training.

The IM=X® Pilates vision grew out of Elyse’s certifications in traditional pilates and the Alexander Technique, a M.A. in Movement Science and a M.Ed. in Exercise Physiology from Columbia University. Based on her extensive studies and her first-hand experience as an instructor, she created a unique program that has provided customers with quick toning results, while at the same time being effective for strengthening the back. At the heart of IM=X® Pilates are the 5 Fundamentals created by Elyse to teach clients how to recruit all core muscles in an elongated neutral spine position to provide for save and efficient movement patterns. The concepts of the 5 Fundamentals are rooted in research that has been done on muscle recruitment, stabilization, and posture. Elyse and the IM=X®Master Trainer team have extensive experience training and rehabilitating professional athletes, dancers and patients with back pain and the IM=X® program now offers a wide variety of workouts inspired by yoga, cycling, cardio, and ballet bar.

IM=X® Pilates has been featured at numerous health and fitness conventions including World Fitness IDEA Conference, the IDEA Mind/Body Conference, ECA, the World Spinning Conference, the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Conference. In addition, the IM=X Pilates DVD series has been sold world-wide as well as the book authored by Elyse called Pilates for Men by IM=X. You are in good hands with the IM=X® Pilates certified instructors and personal trainers.
